About the Magazine: Kurating is a digital art magazine simplifying art knowledge for emerging artists and art enthusiasts looking to access the daunting Nigerian art scene. In a sea of art publications known for their high-diction, Kurating’s take on art stories and art events in Nigeria is decentralised, simple and artist-centered.

About my role: Although established in 2017, Kurating paused operations from 2022 until 2024 when I resumed as Editorial Communications Lead. Upon resumption, I immediately researched events, key players, popular publications and reporters in the Nigerian art scene to develop a new content strategy for the magazine.

To meet Kurating’s audience of emerging artists seeking news and art opportunities on-the-go, I pitched, developed and delivered three new content segments:

  1. **“Published in Kurating” (**Microblogs of long-form content published on Kurating’s website.)
  2. **“Kurating Attends” (**Visual stories, story takeovers & live reports from major art and culture events in Lagos.)
  3. Kurating Art Opportunities (Listicles on art opportunities, grants and portfolio reviews to look out for.)

I also advised the creation of a new visual identity for Kurating, incorporating editorial illustrations into the magazine’s brand identity. Now, I scout, develop briefs for and direct illustrators who interpret Kurating’s art stories as brilliant editorial covers. I also create illustrations of my own.
