Beyond Beauty is an audio documentary produced by Hope Ofobike BA, MA, SGI in partial fulfilment of the requirements for a Masters in Journalism from the University of Regina, Canada. The dissertation project interrogates the perception of cosmetic surgeries in Nigeria and the attitudes of women, youth, clerics and traditional leaders to the rising trend of “going under the knife.”

My Role: I was the on-field researcher for this project. I assisted Hope Ofobike with conducting in-person interviews with target groups in Lagos Nigeria over a period of five months (November 2022-May 2023.)

Key Responsibilities:

1. Managed the pre-fieldwork planning, budgeting, participant scouting and liaison, equipment hire, and project documentation.
2. Organised and conducted 15 in-person interviews with the researcher’s ideal respondents (one traditional chiefs, two clerics and twelve young people.)
3. Recorded clear, high-quality b-roll audio files (interviews, ambient sound, vox pops and narrative voiceovers) for the audio documentary.
